On April 25, 2023, the Board of County Commissioners heard the introduction and first reading of an ordinance prohibiting the accumulation of rubbish.

This ordinance aims to prohibit the accumulation of trash, junk, and garbage within Mesa County, providing a clear and transparent process for the County to legally abate properties with waste on them.

The accumulation of trash not only looks unpleasant but can also create a breeding ground for pests and harmful bacteria, leading to health hazards, and can pose a fire risk and harm the environment by polluting our air and waterways.

The proposed ordinance is a significant step toward ensuring a cleaner, healthier, safer community. It is our collective responsibility to keep our neighborhoods, public spaces, and businesses free from rubbish and promote a safe and healthy living environment.

Mesa County encourages everyone to play their part in keeping our community clean and healthy by disposing of their rubbish and supporting responsible waste management.

The proposed ordinance has been authorized for publication, and the final adoption is anticipated to be presented at the regular public hearing on May 9, 2023.

Together, we can create a community we can all be proud of by maintaining a clean and healthy environment for the well-being of our community.
