Mesa County’s Pre-Charge Adult Diversion Program focuses on rehabilitation over punishment, reducing the burden on the judicial system while helping individuals address underlying issues such as mental health challenges and substance abuse.

Instead of immediately filing charges in court, law enforcement may offer eligible individuals the opportunity to participate in the program. This option is available for specific misdemeanor, traffic, and petty offenses, providing a proactive approach that allows individuals to take responsibility without carrying a permanent criminal record.

The Pre-Charge Adult Diversion Program helps individuals move forward while benefiting the broader community by offering a path to resolution outside the courtroom.

This approach:

  • Encourages accountability without the lasting consequences of a conviction.
  • Reduces court congestion, allowing resources to be focused on more serious cases.
  • Supports rehabilitation, giving participants access to services that address the root causes of their legal issues.

Ultimately, this program is about second chances — offering individuals an opportunity to make amends and rebuild their future while fostering a safer, more restorative community.
