Mesa County Public Health (MCPH) has been made aware of a recall involving chicken taco meal kits from Sprouts Farmers Market, as well as waffle and pancake products from Treehouse Foods.  All of these products are being recalled due to a potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes. The taco meal kits were distributed to Sprouts Farmers Market stores nationwide and may have been sold in Mesa County. The waffle and pancake products were sold at stores including Dollar General, Kroger, Target, and Walmart.

 

Description of recalled taco kits

  • The product involved is the Chicken Street Taco Meal Kit.
  • The UPC is 205916813991.
  • The products have a best by date of 9/2/2024 - 11/7/2024.

 

Description of recalled waffles and pancakes

  • Great Value 12.3oz Buttermilk Waffles with a best by date of OCT 01 2024 to OCT 11 2025.
  • Great Value 12.3oz Homestyle Waffles with a best by date of OCT 01 2024 to OCT 11 2025.
  • Good and Gather 10.7oz Buttermilk Vanilla Waffles with a best by date of OCT 01 2024 to OCT 11 2025.
  • Kroger 16.5oz Buttermilk Pancakes with a best by date of OCT 01 2024 to OCT 11 2025.
  • Kroger 16.5oz Original Pancakes with a best buy date of OCT 01 2024 to OCT 11 2025.
  • Kroger 33oz Buttermilk Pancakes with a best buy date of OCT 01 2024 to OCT 11 2025.

What should consumers do

  • Consumers should check their refrigerators for any of the recalled taco meal kits.
  • Consumers should check their freezers for any of the recalled waffles and pancakes products.
  • Throw away the products or return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund.

  • Contact your doctor if you have concerns after eating the recalled products.

 

Listeria Description and Treatment

  • Eating food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis. This can cause a serious infection in young children, older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns.
  • Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and gastrointestinal symptoms.
  • In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. 
  • Serious and sometimes fatal infections are possible in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. 
  • Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care.
