In the last four years of mattress recycling in Mesa County, the Landfill has saved the County $375,000 in airspace — and at the Dec. 10 public hearing, the Commissioners unanimously voted to approve two contracts to continue offering this service to our community.

The first contract extension, not to exceed $250,000, is with Spring Back Colorado and ensures all recyclable mattresses dropped off at the Mesa County Landfill are properly recycled in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations.

The second is a $200,000 contract extension with Nostrand Trucking Inc. to haul the mattresses and box springs to the recycling facility located on the Front Range.

While not all mattresses qualify for recycling due to issues like bed bugs or significant soiling, this innovative program continues to save our community substantial time, money, and landfill space, ensuring a more sustainable approach to waste management.
