Access permit requirements

Access permits are essential to ensure the safety and efficiency of our community's infrastructure.

They are required to:

  • Protect public well-being: safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of the community.
  • Ensure smooth traffic: maintain efficient and uninterrupted traffic flow on our roadways.
  • Manage drainage systems: preserve both current and future road right-of-way drainage.
  • Balance interests: fairly weigh the needs of private property owners against public safety and infrastructure investments.
  • Preserve road capacity: protect the capacity of public roads and public investment while accommodating transportation needs at state, regional, local and private levels.

Driveway permit requirements

A driveway permit is required whenever you plan to construct a new driveway that will connect to a Mesa County right-of-way.

To apply for a driveway permit, you must:

  • Clearly illustrate the exact location of your proposed driveway on the permit application form.
  • Mark the driveway's location on your property with flags for easy identification.
