Vacation accrual
Employment accumulation rate (sworn & civilian)
- 7 months – 4 years - Accrue 15.3367 hours per month
- 5 years – 10 years - Accrue 17.3367 hours per month
- 11 years – 15 years - Accrue 19.3367 hours per month
- 16 years+ - Accrue 20.6700 hours per month
Maximum vacation carryover is 488 hours at the end of the calendar year.
Holidays
Holidays do not apply to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, as this time is accumulated into the vacation accruals.
Sick leave
- Full-time employees accrue 10.625 hours of sick leave per month.
- Maximum of 1,440 hours to be carried over at the end of the calendar year.
Part-time employees (0.5 full-time employee)
Earn the same benefits as full-time employees, with premiums being the same.
Differences
- Employee earns a prorated amount of leave
- Or Half of the amount as a full-time employee
Work hours
- Patrol Deputies work various rotational shifts with varying start times and days off.
- Detention Deputies and Law Enforcement Specialists work various shifts with rotating days off.
- Civilian Employees work either
- 4 – 10 hours shifts
- 5 – 8 hours shifts
- With various days off

- Mesa County offers medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Single, double, and family coverages are available
- Basic life insurance
- Accidental death and dismemberment policies are provided at no cost for regular employees
- Optional voluntary coverage is available
Retirement
Mesa County Sheriff’s Office utilizes the CCOERA retirement plan.
- 401(a)
- Mandatory 3% deduction for employees matched by 3% from Mesa County.
- Employee is fully vested after completion of 3 years of service.
- 457(b)
- Voluntary 457 deferred plan is available as well.
- Any and all contributions are on the employee.
- Mesa County will match funds up to 2% is also available.
- Participation is optional.
Uniform
All uniforms and equipment are provided by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
