The cliffside west of the 29 Road Bridge slid into the Colorado River on June 30, 2023, leading Mesa County Public Works, Mesa County Emergency Management, Mesa County Sheriff's Office, and Grand Junction Fire Department to respond to the scene to assess and evaluate the situation. The public is encouraged to avoid the area for safety reasons.

Last week Mesa County completed environmental mitigation of an area in Clifton that included the Peachtree shopping center, Union Pacific Railroad, CDOT, and Mesa County.
