Mesa County Commissioners today accepted the resignation of Treasurer and Public Trustee Sheila Reiner, effective immediately, and recognized Chief Deputy Treasurer Jackie Campbell as acting treasurer until a successor is appointed.

Under Colorado law (C.R.S. § 30-10-704), when a vacancy occurs in the Treasurer’s Office, the chief deputy treasurer is authorized to perform all duties until a successor is appointed to ensure uninterrupted service to residents.

Reiner, who has served as an elected official since 2012 and began her career with Mesa County in 2001, shared her gratitude during the public hearing for her team in the Treasurer’s Office.

Among six staff members, the office carries 93 years of combined county experience. Campbell herself has 22 years of service, ensuring stability during the transition.

“It has been super rewarding to be an elected official,” Reiner said. “More than anything, just being in a position to problem solve, help the public, ride the waves of the county, the ups and downs, and figuring out how to navigate all those waters has been a true pleasure. I have enjoyed every bit. That’s why I am excited for a new challenge and the potential to stay on with Mesa County as acting finance director.”

Commissioners thanked Reiner for her service and emphasized confidence in Campbell’s leadership.

Next steps:

  • Chief Deputy Treasurer Jackie Campbell is authorized to perform all duties until the Board of County Commissioners appoints a new treasurer.
  • The Board will appoint a replacement to serve the remainder of the current elected term, which runs through December 2026.

Mesa County thanks Sheila Reiner for her 24 years of service and dedication to residents and looks forward to her continued contributions in her new role as acting finance director.
