Commissioner Bobbie Daniel tours Roaring Judy Fish Hatchery
October 4, 2024
During the C9 Water Conservation Summit, Mesa County Commissioner Bobbie Daniel had the opportunity to tour the Roaring Judy Fish Hatchery in Gunnison County. This hatchery is home to Colorado’s largest kokanee salmon spawn and is critical in the state's fish population management.
Established in 1963, the Roaring Judy Hatchery takes its name from a nearby creek named by local elementary students. During the tour, Commissioner Daniel met with Jeff Spohn, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Chief of Hatcheries, who provided insights into the hatchery's operations and contributions to Colorado’s aquatic ecosystem.
While there, Commissioner Daniel even had the chance to learn the basics of fly fishing, adding a hands-on experience to her visit.
