No Burn Advisory

Mesa County Public Health has issued a No Burn Advisory for Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. due to strong winds. Burning of any kind, including agricultural burning, is not allowed during this advisory period. Check conditions on our Air Quality webpage.

Mesa County Commissioners and Administrator joined energy and policy leaders from across the region at the 2025 JOLT (Joint Organizations Leading Transition) Energy Summit held June 26–27 in Rifle, Colorado.

Hosted by Grand River Health, the summit brought together experts, elected officials, and community leaders to discuss the future of energy in Colorado and beyond.

The event focused on an “All-of-the-Above” energy approach, one that supports traditional energy sources while embracing innovation in solar, geothermal, nuclear, and other sources.

Commissioners participated in sessions covering energy affordability, economic impacts, grid infrastructure and workforce training. The summit also featured a keynote address by Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and remarks from Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser.

“As communities across Colorado face economic shifts from energy transitions, it’s critical that we stay engaged and advocate for policies that support our local economies and energy reliability,” said Mesa County Commissioner Bobbie Daniel.

“Energy development is deeply tied to our way of life on the Western Slope,” said Mesa County Commissioner JJ Fletcher. “This summit was an important opportunity to collaborate with other counties, share local challenges, and push for practical, forward-thinking solutions.”

The JOLT Energy Summit is part of a growing effort to ensure rural and energy-producing counties have a voice in shaping Colorado’s energy future. Learn more at the Joint Organizations Leading Transition (JOLT) Energy Summit website.
