Steep prices and a lack of inventory has made finding affordable housing difficult nationwide, but Mesa County is supporting community partners in their mission to find solutions. During the July 23 administrative public hearing, Commissioners approved a letter to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) in support of Housing Resources of Western Colorado’s Down Payment Assistance (DPA) Program funding application. In association with Com Act Housing Corporation, this program helps residents become first time homeowners despite the current market conditions.

The DPA Program provides prospective home buyers with a specialized loan that can help lower their monthly mortgage payments and provide support with down payment and closing costs, making homeownership possible when it might otherwise not be.

Since Com Act and Housing Resources launched their program six months ago, they have closed on 30 State-funded DPA loans, and currently have another four clients under contract and 13 with loan reservations.
