At the July 16 public hearing, Commissioners approved a letter to the Grand Valley River Corridor Initiative (RCI) in support of their grant application and their goal to develop a master plan for managing the river corridor. A comprehensive, collaborative, and non-regulatory Grand Valley River Corridor Master Plan would help preserve the natural environment, enhance recreational opportunities, sustain agricultural activities, and foster sustainable development in the area.

The Grand Valley River Corridor is a valuable ecological, recreational, and economic resource for the Mesa County community. It spans along the Colorado River from De Beque to the Utah state line and along the Gunnison River from Bridgeport to its junction with the Colorado River. Proper management of this resource is crucial for the Grand Valley’s well-being and prosperity.

If awarded grant funding, RCI will be able to hire a contractor to assist in developing a thorough and cooperative master plan.
