Sidewalk and drainage project moves forward to improve access near Broadway Elementary
Getting to school safely should not depend on the route. Mesa County is moving forward with improvements to make it safer and more accessible.
On April 28, the Board of County Commissioners approved a $1,002,316.80 construction contract with Mountain Valley Contracting Inc. for sidewalk and drainage improvements along 22 1/2 Road and Greenbelt Drive.
The project focuses on providing ADA-compliant pedestrian access to Broadway Elementary School, connecting students and families from CO-340 and Redlands Parkway, where accessibility and safety are currently limited.
Work includes sidewalk and drainage improvements on both corridors, along with resurfacing on Greenbelt Drive.
This is a coordinated effort between Mesa County, the City of Grand Junction and School District 51. Working together allows the agencies to deliver a single, connected project rather than separate improvements over time.
Construction is expected to begin this summer, with work along 22 1/2 Road scheduled during school break to reduce impacts. The project is anticipated to be complete by late summer or early fall.
These improvements address gaps in the current system and create a safer, more accessible route for students, families and the surrounding community.
