Mesa County receives additional $50,000 state grant to support housing and planning efforts
Mesa County will receive an additional $50,000 in state funding to support local planning and housing initiatives, following approval by the Board of Mesa County Commissioners at their administrative public hearing on Jan.6.
The funding is a supplemental award through the Local Planning Capacity Grant program administered by the Colorado Department of Local Affairs. Mesa County qualified for the additional funding after meeting an early adoption milestone tied to Proposition 123’s fast-track requirements.
This new award builds on a $41,736 grant Mesa County received on June 26, 2025, to pilot the use of artificial intelligence tools aimed at streamlining development review processes. Together, the two awards bring the County’s total Local Planning Capacity grant funding to $91,736.
The $50,000 in supplemental funding will support several planning efforts in unincorporated Mesa County, including:
- Updating a regional housing needs assessment
- Completing a local housing action plan
- Preparing strategic growth and water supply elements required under Senate Bill 24-174
The incentive funding does not require any local matching dollars.
These planning efforts are intended to help Mesa County better align housing, infrastructure and water planning while improving efficiency in development review.
