Commissioners approve Q3 amended county budget

Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution to adopt changes to the Mesa County budget. This supplemental budget is a tool used to update the budget throughout the year as grants are awarded, donations are received and department needs change. 

These updates help ensure money is accounted for before it is spent and that funds are used for their intended purpose.

After grants, revenue increases, and invoices that weren’t in the original budget were accounted for, the county’s general fund benefited by $65,645. Animal Services received a grant to fund a volunteer coordinator position, Facilities received rebate checks from Xcel Energy for efficiency upgrades, and the sheriff’s office got invoices from the state for the Turner Gulch and Pine Gulch fires. 

The rebate from Xcel was $81,450, and the state invoices for fire services totaled $50,951. Criminal Justice Services also expects increases in revenue and food service costs.

The Regional Transportation Planning office is shifting the preventive maintenance of its vehicles to the Capital Fund, and Public Health has received a federal suicide prevention grant.
