Delay to burn season, public will be notified when it’s safe to burn

Mesa County Public Health (MCPH) is delaying the start of the fall burn season due to ongoing fire restrictions and unsafe weather conditions.

Under normal circumstances, fall open burn season would be: 

• September 1 - September 30 for City of Grand Junction residents.
• September 1 - October 31 for Mesa County residents outside of city limits.

Current conditions

Mesa County remains under Stage Two Fire Restrictions issued by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office in June 2026. A No Burn Advisory has also been in place since June 2026 due to dry and hot conditions that increase the wildfire risk. 

Our agency is monitoring the situation week by week. We will provide updates through our website and social media platforms when it is safe to begin burning or obtain a permit.

Burn permits will not be issued until the No Burn Advisory is lifted.
