Commissioners approve Redlands Cape Seal project

At their June 25 public hearing, the commissioners approved a $397,543 contract with A-1 Chipseal to complete the Mesa County Cape Seal Phase II Project. Phase II of the project will involve applying cape seal to 2.75 miles of roadways in the Redlands area, in addition to the approximately 3.25 miles already applied in Orchard Mesa and the Redlands during Phase I earlier this year.

Cape seal is a surface treatment for roads created by applying a slurry seal to a newly constructed layer of chip seal. The primary purpose of the slurry is to fill voids in the rough and loose chip seal. This two-step process creates more durable roads and keeps rocks in the chip seal from coming loose, resulting in a more rider-friendly experience for bikes and cars.
