A 40 year old bridge in rural Mesa County will need to be replaced next year, and Commissioners have approved the design contract to start the project.

At the Oct. 20 public hearing, Commissioners approved a $269,910 contract with Short Elliot Hendrickson, Inc. to design a new bridge over the Highline Canal on J Road and 23 Road.

This is the first phase of the project, no construction is happening yet.

The County issued a Request for Proposals for the design phase of the project. Following a thorough review of qualifications, cost proposals, and submittals from five participating firms, Short Elliott Hendrickson was selected as the designated consultant.

That design work will take place this winter, with construction scheduled to start in fall 2027.
