Mesa County Engineering Director Laura Page provided an update during a recent public hearing, highlighting the vital work of the Public Works Engineering Division. The division is dedicated to designing, constructing, and administering all public infrastructure projects to ensure a safe and reliable system for the benefit of our community.

The division is focused on a data-driven approach to maintaining roads, bridges, and storm drainage systems, emphasizing extending the lifespan of these critical assets and reducing maintenance costs.

Mesa County has inventoried all paved roads, with an average pavement condition index (PCI) score of 72%. Efforts are ongoing to improve the condition of the 7% of roads currently rated as poor.

The division manages around 40 design and construction contracts annually, handling resurfacing, rehabilitation, and safety improvements for transportation and stormwater projects.
