About 20 miles of roads in the Fruitvale area will receive preventive maintenance this year as Mesa County continues its work to preserve and extend the life of local streets.

Mesa County commissioners approved a $2,298,270.51 contract on March 3 for the 2026 Surface Treatments Project.

The work will cover about 20 miles of residential and collector roads between 29 1/2 Road and 31 Road north of Interstate 70.

Many of these are the neighborhood roads residents drive every day to get to work, school and local businesses.

Preventive maintenance like this helps protect roads before major damage occurs. By sealing and reinforcing pavement early, Mesa County can extend the life of existing roads and reduce the need for more costly reconstruction later.

Crews will apply cape seal and slurry seal treatments, which help protect pavement from weather, traffic wear and cracking.

To ensure the work lasts, the project will also include:

  • Crack sealing before surface treatments begin
  • New high-durability pavement markings after the work is complete

These treatments help keep roads smoother and safer while stretching transportation dollars further.

Road preservation programs like this help Mesa County maintain its transportation system and protect the public investment residents rely on every day.

More information about construction timing will be shared as the project schedule is finalized.
