Mesa County announces improvement plan for B 1/2 Road

Mesa County Public Works has announced plans for a full reconstruction and improvement project on B 1/2 Road, spanning two miles between 30 Road and 32 Road. The corridor was highlighted during the recent Community Survey as a priority area requiring significant repairs.

Following a joint site evaluation done by Road and Bridge personnel and Engineering staff, initial assessments considered short-term repairs targeting the severely degraded section east of 31 Road, that would cost an estimated $300,000. However, the Public Works team determined that consolidating available Highway Users Tax Fund resources with Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) funding would yield a more sustainable, long-term solution.

Rather than executing piecemeal repairs, Public Works is prioritizing a comprehensive $2 million project covering the entire two-mile stretch. Scope of work for the comprehensive plan includes targeted structural reconstruction of bad sections, shoulder widening to enhance safety, and a full asphalt overlay.

The project has been incorporated into the recommended six year CIP budget submitted to the Board of County Commissioners for approval later this year. Engineering design work is scheduled to begin in 2027, with construction following in 2028.

This effort highlights how the different parts of the Public Works Department work together to address public concerns and maximizes the benefits of limited funding.
