Mesa County and other local governments are working on a large project to update the stormwater management manual for developers in the Grand Valley.

The manual is a shared guide to promote public health, safety, and general welfare and minimize losses due to flooding through the adoption of policies, procedures, standards, and criteria for storm drainage.

The county public works department is using Wright Water Engineers Inc. as the contractor to update the manual to industry standards. At the Sept. 21 public hearing, commissioners approved a change order to the contract, as the scope of work has increased over time.

The cost is $87,214 and is shared between the county, the City of Grand Junction, Fruita, Palisade and School District 51. Mesa County’s share is $34,800.

The additional work for the contractor includes community outreach, providing training on the new manual, and creating technical and aesthetic criteria for certain types of stormwater infrastructure.

Review draft chapters of the new manual and submit comments on the Mesa County Stormwater Management Manual Update website.
