The Mesa County Workforce Center (MCWFC) is proud to partner with Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Tech following the award of a $2.46 million federal grant that will expand short-term training opportunities for high-demand careers across the Western Slope.

CMU Tech received $2,456,746 through the U.S. Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), part of a $169 million national investment aimed at improving access, affordability and workforce alignment in postsecondary education.

The grant will support training programs designed to help job seekers gain industry-recognized credentials in the shortest time possible. Programs supported by the funding include pathways in health care, first response, transportation, technology and skilled trades.

“This is exciting to be able to create another pathway for job seekers to obtain education,” said Mesa County Workforce Center Director Heather Nara. “Short-term, industry-driven and in-demand training programs like these help community members move quickly into careers that support their families while meeting the real needs of our local employers.”

MCWFC supported CMU Tech’s grant application alongside Mesa County Valley School District 51, Community Hospital and Primary Care Partners. As a workforce partner, we will continue providing labor market data and employer insights to ensure training programs align with current and emerging workforce demand.

“One of our roles is to help ensure education leads to long-term employment,” Nara said. “By partnering with CMU Tech, we can help ensure these programs are driven by data, informed by employers and accessible to the people who need them most.”

MCWFC looks forward to continuing its partnership with CMU Tech and regional employers to expand training opportunities, strengthen the local workforce and create clear pathways from education to employment for Mesa County residents.
