Work to begin on Independence Valley asphalt crack repairs

Work to improve the Independence Valley subdivision road network will begin on July 9, 2024, north of the subdivision and move south toward Highway 340. Please use caution, slow down, and look out for personnel near the construction zone. Traffic will continue as usual.

Mesa County discusses restructuring of Animal Services for improved care

Director of Justice Services Matt Lewis presented a comprehensive plan to restructure Mesa County Animal Services (MCAS) during the July 2 public hearing of the Mesa County Board of Commissioners. This plan will transition MCAS from a county department into a separate enforcement and shelter structure. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) will absorb all enforcement duties for unincorporated Mesa County, and animal sheltering will be outsourced to the nonprofit sector. Mesa County will continue providing shelter services until a new contract is approved.

Commissioners approve resolution allowing firearms in most County facilities

Residents of Mesa County have retained the ability to carry firearms in most County facilities. During their June 25 public hearing, the Commissioners voted to approve a resolution that explicitly specifies which County government spaces residents are prohibited from open and concealed carrying guns.
